Existen los ERPs gratuitos?
De buenas a primeras cuesta creer que unas aplicaciones de tan alta complejidad y gran tamaño como son los ERP puedan ser gratuitos o que puedan tener el código abierto.
La realidad es que existen diversos programas de gestión tipo ERP cuyas comunidades de desarrollo están realmente comprometidas con la producción de software ERP de alta calidad a pesar de la complejidad de este tipo de aplicación.
Veamos cuales son sus ventajas y los retos a los que nos enfrentamos con un ERP Open Source.
La invasión del Open Source o Código Libre.

Son los ERP Open Source realmente gratuitos?
Uno de los proyectos de ERP open source mas famosos es Adempiere, una de sus máximas dice así:
“Information Is Free - U have to Know
People Are Not - U have to Pay
Contributors Are Priceless - U have to Be”
Que traducido sería:
"La información es gratuita - Debes de saber
Las personas no lo son - Debes de pagar
Los contribuidores son impagables - Debes de estar"
Si bien existen proyectos ERP Open Source de gran calidad, solidez y consistencia, Los ERPs de código abierto, como la mayor parte de los proyectos Open Source, se diseñan pensando en las PYME's y no suelen ser la mejor opción para las grandes corporaciones.
Estas PYMEs en cambio encontrarán en los ERP de código libre una opción de altísimo valora costes muy competitivos y con un mantenimiento reducido. Estos ERP open source permiten a las empresas medianas y pequeñas acceder al mundo ERP sin incurrir en los enormes costes en licencias de las grandes soluciones ERP comerciales.
Esta es pues una opción inteligente a estudiar y tener en cuenta, esconde grandes ventajas que se pueden aprovechar y no menores retos que se deben de tener en cuenta y planificar con cautela y antelación suficientes.
Ventajas de los ERP Open Source:
Las empresas obtienen el software ERP de forma gratuita.
Sin sistemas propietarios. No existe exigencia ni obligación por parte de la empresa a la hora de contratar el mantenimiento de la aplicación.
Mercado libre y sana competencia, existen numerosas alternativas si usted no está satisfecho con su proveedor de ERP. No se ve ligado a una marca o empresa para siempre.
Los costes de mantenimiento y de personalización son libres y no están marcados por ninguna empresa, por lo que suelen ser muy razonables.
Open Source no significa solo "gratis" además el código de la aplicación es abierto y está disponible y accesible en su totalidad, lo que permite una enorme flexibilidad a la hora de adaptar y personalizar el ERP a las peculiaridades de cada empresa.

Entrepreneurship & OSS
ERP has “enterprise” in it. Correct! ERP OSS is not software for individuals, but for Organizations. Enterprises. And Enterprises do business.
An ERP, though require a tremendous technology commitment, is far less geeky than any other OSS ever developed. It’s business, which so unfortunately a number of geeks take a distance from afar.
Because ERP is developed to solve the problem of and boost business, ERP OSS requires entrepreneurship and business minds! That’s where the leading heads and consultants are called.
Development Prospects
People talk ERP. People use ERP. People do ERP. Everywhere is ERP.
Some sell ERP. Some give ERP for free.
It’s obvious, Open-source ERP is in a terribly good jumpstart to develop. If they can overcome some difficulties such as commitment, simplification of complexity and harmonization of business and technology, the future is bright for them.
